Giving Thanks and Giving Backc
Nov 21, 2007
Here it is November 21, 2007.  The eve of Thanksgiving is here and across the country people prepare for the immanent arrival of a holiday over two-hundred years running.  As I scroll through the many festive e-mail forwards that inundate my Inbox I cannot help but wonder if perhaps we as Christians overlook an aspect of providence which deserves much thanks to God.

Embracing Your Privilege
Nov 1, 2007

Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made himself of no reputation, taking on the form of a bond servant and coming in the likeness of men.  Philippians 2:5-7

Privilege is defined as a special advantage or immunity not embraced by all, or a right reserved exclusively for a particular person or group. Throughout the history of mankind, there has always been a group of people who were more privileged than others.  In many situations there are several individuals who enjoy certain privileges based on their position, their family, or their personal accomplishments.  Having groups or individuals who are privileged is not something that was invented by man.  Throughout the Bible we see groups and individuals who enjoy special advantages or rights because of their relationship with God.

Identifying Opportunities
Oct 24, 2007
Entrepreneurship success begins with opportunity recognition.  For that reason, many people spend their time chasing after opportunities; believing that their big hit is just an opportunity away. The problem with this approach is that they are often unprepared for the opportunity they find or they find themselves lured into the wrong kind of opportunity, which may be an opportunity for someone else but a disaster for them.  In Biblical Entrepreneurship, we believe that opportunities are found in the midst of problems. Identifying Opportunities is recognizing when the timing of God meets preparation.

The Fall of Babylon
Oct 23, 2007

And he cried out with a loud voice saying Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and has become a dwelling place of demons, a prison for every foul spirit, and a cage for every unclean and hated bird! (Revelation 18:2)

Biblical entrepreneurs must be discerning as they operate in the world but not of the world, so that they do not fall prey to the lust and greed of this Babylonian spirit.  We must be salt and light in the world and not just blend into the system; otherwise we will suffer the consequences of its downfall.  We cannot be so determined to build our businesses that we buy into the Babylonian ways, because they lead to death and destruction.  We cannot be so profit-driven that we compromise our values to realize the profit, because in the end, we will lose our soul. Our commitment must be: it is better that I have a little and be right with my God, than have a whole lot and not be right with my God.  Pleasing Jesus is the most important thing in my life, everything else must be subject to that.

Looking Forward Together
Sep 25, 2007

Two weeks and three days ago I married my now wife Amy Lynn Stewart.  The ceremony took place at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Hagerstown, MD on September 8, 2007.  Needless to say I am ecstatic with joy at the wonderful partner God has provided to share my life with.
